Author Birthday: Beezus, Mr. Henshaw, and D.E.A.R!

Beloved children’s author, Beverly Cleary, was born on April 12th, 1916. She is one of our favorite children’s authors and has won many awards, including a Newbery Medal for Dear Mr. Henshaw in 1983. But one of the most exciting aspects of Cleary’s career is Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) month, which is celebrated throughout April, but surrounds Cleary’s birthday!

Her booksstarring such beloved characters as Ramona and Beezus Quimby, Henry Huggins, and Ralph S. Mouse have taught and entertained people of all ages for decades. One classroom, inspired by Leigh Botts in Dear Mr. Henshaw actually made alarms for their lunch boxes! Check out how cool they are!

With so many Beverly Cleary books and so many ways to Drop Everything And Read…

How will you celebrate D.E.A.R. month?
