Wow. Just wow. I can’t even believe this is a thing. Bookworms and just nerds in general, listen up! This article is for you!
The Library Hotel offers luxury accommodation in the heart of Manhattan near the New York Public Library, Grand Central Station, Times Square and the Theater District. Designed after the library subject classifications of the Dewey Decimal System, the hotel’s lobby, common rooms, suites and guest rooms hold a collection of more than 6,000 books!
But that’s not all…Each of the hotel’s 10 floors corresponds to one of the 10 categories of the Dewey Decimal System, such as literature, history, math and science, philosophy, and the arts. The wall behind the reception desk is designed to look like a Dewey Decimal card catalog. Each floor has six guest rooms and suites that are themed to match different topics within its category.
For instance, on the fifth floor, which is the math and science section, the themes of the rooms include astronomy, dinosaurs, botany, zoology, geology and mathematics. Among the themes on the seventh floor, which is devoted to the arts, are music, photography, paintings and architecture. Each room has its own mini-library based upon its theme.
Besides the themed libraries in each room, the hotel has public access libraries in the lobby, a dedicated reading room, a restaurant and a bar called the Writer’s Den and Poetry Garden. Guests also have access to an assortment of magazines, daily newspapers and a collection of DVDs.
The Library Hotel is listed in U.S. News & World Report Travel as among the best New York City hotels. Besides its literary amenities, it offers complementary continental breakfast and a complementary evening reception with wine and snacks in the reading room.
The Library Hotel turns a love for books and reading into an elegant experience.
