Bookworms Can Now Get Perfume That Smells Like A ‘Pile Of Old Books’

Scents like the ocean, wet pavement, cookies, and even ‘old books’ can convey a sense of comfort and joy. Most people can’t appreciate the smell of a library since everything is on the internet, but for those who understand, we’ve got good news for you!

A perfume claims that it will make all literacy lovers smell like a ‘pile of old books’.

Appropriately named “Paper Passion Perfume,” the scent has been crafted to recreate the “unique bouquet of freshly printed books.”

“Designed by boutique perfumer Geza Schoen in close consultation with Gerhard Steidl and in collaboration with Wallpaper* magazine, the perfume expresses that peculiar mix of paper and ink which gives a book its unmistakable aroma, along with the fresh scent which a book opened for the first time releases.”

Schoen has over 20 years of experience in the perfume industry and was inspired by his time spent in Göttingen, Germany, in the “depths of the paper-filled” Steidl headquarters (An international publisher).

He would spend his time flipping through “books, papers, samples, and inks, in order to find inspiration for a perfume that is true to books, wearable, and which ages well in time – just like a good book.”

Schoen had to go through 17 trials before he found the “the right balance between the smell of paper as such and an enjoyable perfumistic aesthetic.”

The perfume’s packaging was made to mimic a hardcover book with a cut-out compartment that contains the fragrance bottle. As the description reads, the first pages of the book contain “texts on the pleasures of paper and the Paper Passion project by Nobel Laureate Günter Grass, Karl Lagerfeld, Geza Schoen, and Wallpaper* Editor-in-Chief Tony Chambers.”

You can purchase it for just €125, which is $140 when converted over to USD.
